Description

Hexane-2,4-dione is an organic compound with the chemical formula of C6H10O4. It is a colorless liquid with a fruity odor. Hexane-2,4-dione is used as a solvent in paint and varnish removers, as well as in the manufacture of other chemicals for industrial use. This compound has been shown to inhibit carcinoma cell lines in vitro and is also used as a reagent for the preparation of ethylene diamine. Hexane-2,4-dione can be synthesized by reacting hexane (C6H14) with ethylene glycol (C2H6O2) in the presence of hydrochloric acid (HCl).
