6-Hydroxypyridin-3-ylboronic acid is an excitatory amino acid that functions as a neurotransmitter. It is found in the brain and spinal cord, where it modulates the release of glutamate by acting on glutamate transporters. 6-Hydroxypyridin-3-ylboronic acid has been shown to increase protein levels of glutaminase, an enzyme involved in glutamate metabolism. This agent also has astrocytic effects and can stimulate synapse formation. 6-Hydroxypyridin-3-ylboronic acid is a pyridazine derivative and is structurally related to other excitatory amino acids such as DOPA, dopamine, and lysergic acid.
