Product Information

Name:
5-Hydroxy pyrrolidinone
Synonyms:
  • 2-Pyrrolidinone, 5-Hydroxy-
  • 5-Hydroxy-2-pyrrolidinone
  • 5-Hydroxypyrrolidin-2-one
Description:

5-Hydroxy pyrrolidinone is a chalcone with a molecular weight of 269.5 g/mol. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on tumour cells and has been used in the synthesis of amides, which are used in the treatment of cancer. 5-Hydroxy pyrrolidinone also inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the ribosome. This process prevents protein synthesis and cell division, leading to bacterial death. The chemical structure of 5-Hydroxy pyrrolidinone is similar to other compounds that inhibit cancer growth, such as 2-methoxycinnamic acid and protocatechuic acid. These compounds have been shown to inhibit cancer cell lines by blocking DNA replication and inducing apoptosis through caspase activation.
