5-Hydroxyquinoxaline is a glyoxal copper complex that is photophysical and has a ring structure. It can be found in nature as a product of the cleavage of 5-hydroxyindole, which is derived from tryptophan. 5-Hydroxyquinoxaline can be used to produce hydrosulfite or nitrogen atoms. It is also used as a ligand for potassium dichromate and aromatic hydrocarbons. 5-Hydroxyquinoxaline has been shown to have anti-mutagenic properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of nitro derivatives that are mutagenic.
