4-Hydroxybutyrophenone is an oxidation product of 4-hydroxyphenylacetone. It can be detected in the chromatogram by alkaline hydrolysis and has a molecular weight of 131.11 g/mol. 4-Hydroxybutyrophenone has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds such as phenylacetone, benzaldehyde, and acetophenone. The compound has been shown to have peroxide properties and can be detected using liquid chromatography with a hydrogen peroxide detector. 4-Hydroxybutyrophenone is also reactive towards acid solutions, which may lead to the formation of carboxylic acids or esters.
