Hexafluorobenzene is a colorless, crystalline compound that is used as a precursor to other organic compounds. Hexafluorobenzene is not very soluble in water or organic solvents, and has a high boiling point. It is also known to have high reactivity with metal hydroxides and redox potentials. Hexafluorobenzene has been shown to have transport properties that are similar to those of hydrocarbons and it can form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. Hexafluorobenzene has been synthesized using the asymmetric reaction of malonic acid and bromoacetonitrile under kinetic control conditions. The molecule is classified as group P2 on the periodic table.
