2-HYDROXY-7-METHOXY-QUINOLINE-3-CARBALDEHYDE is an imine that has antibacterial activity. It was synthesized as a result of the stepwise condensation of 2,4,6-trimethylaniline and 7-methoxyquinoline. The imine nitrogen can coordinate to metal cations such as mercury, lead, or cadmium to form complexes. These complexes have shown antimicrobial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. The quinoline derivatives are also considered to be effective in this regard.
