N-Hydroxybenzenecarboximidoyl cyanide is a synthetic drug that is used to treat fungal infections. It is an organocyanide with the chemical formula C(NOH)C(O)CN. This compound was synthesized by the reaction of sodium carbonate and dioxime, which generated a chloride as a byproduct. The stereoselective synthesis of this compound was achieved by using an amide as a precursor molecule. N-Hydroxybenzenecarboximidoyl cyanide has been shown to be effective against several fungal strains in laboratory tests. These compounds have also been found to inhibit the growth of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics such as chloramphenicol and erythromycin, but not methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
