Description:

2,2,4,4,6,6-Hexamethyl-1,3,5-trithiane is an industrial chemical that is used as a monomer in polymerization reactions. It has been shown to be an additive for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polystyrene. 2,2,4,4,6,6-Hexamethyl-1,3,5-trithiane is highly reactive and reacts with hydrogen chloride to form chloroform. This compound also has the structural formula CHC(CH)CCl (see Figure 1). 2,2,4,4,6,6-Hexamethyl-1,3,5-trithiane shows acidic properties due to its dipole and the presence of an aromatic hydrocarbon ring.
