N-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)glycine is a hydroxylated derivative of glycine that has been shown to be useful in wastewater treatment. It is stable in alkaline solutions and retains its activity after exposure to trifluoroacetic acid, hydrochloric acid, or hydroxyl group. N-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)glycine is also used as a histochemical stain for water vapor, where it reacts with the amino group of proteins.
