1-Hydroxymethyl-3-cyclopentene is a carbocyclic nucleoside that can be activated by the addition of benzoate. It has been shown to be stereoselective and cyclopentenes are its monomers. Gel permeation chromatography has been used to separate 1-Hydroxymethyl-3-cyclopentene from other compounds, such as chloride and summarises. This compound also has a high affinity for viruses. Aziridine can be synthesized from 1-Hydroxymethyl-3-cyclopentene by epoxidation with tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride.
