4-Hydroxy-7-methoxy-1H-quinolin-2-one is an antimicrobial compound that belongs to the group of piperidine derivatives. It has been shown to have a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity and is active against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. 4HMQO has been synthesized by reacting a 2,4,5,6 tetrahydropyrimido[1,2a]benzothiazole with methylene bromide in the presence of a base. The synthesis is based on an earlier work by Eschweiler and coauthors who investigated the synthesis of quinoline derivatives.
