- 2-Hydroxy-4-Methoxypyridine
2-Hydroxy-4-methoxypyridine (2HMP) is a white crystalline solid that can be purified by recrystallization from ethanol or hydrochloric acid solution. 2HMP is used as a reagent for the synthesis of ricinine, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. 2HMP is also used in organic syntheses and as an analytical standard in ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy. The UV spectrum of 2HMP in ethanol solution has a maximum at 242 nm and a shoulder at 272 nm. The UV spectrum of 2HMP in a hydrochloric acid solution has maxima at 216 nm and 238 nm.
