Description:

(3S)-3-Hydroxypyrrolidin-2-one is an intramolecular reaction that forms the constituting part of many syntheses, such as activating agents. It is synthesized by the cyanation of a lactone, and then extracted from the resulting product. This compound can be used to synthesize betaines and cleavage products, which are trackable with radioactive tracers. (3S)-3-Hydroxypyrrolidin-2-one has been used in asymmetric synthesis to produce enantiomerically pure compounds. The reductive ring opening of lactones with this compound yields a chiral product, which can be used in pharmaceuticals as a chiral pool.
