Hydroquinine hydrobromide hydrate is a zuclopenthixol derivative that has been used as an antipsychotic drug. It is a potent inhibitor of melanogenesis, which can be caused by the inhibition of tyrosinase-related protein-1 (TRP-1) and dopachrome tautomerase (DCT). Hydroquinine hydrobromide hydrate also inhibits corynanthine and pigmentation in mice. This agent has the ability to modify the splicing of messenger RNA transcripts by binding to the exon junction complex, thereby preventing transcription termination at polyadenylated transcripts. Hydroquinone hydrobromide hydrate also acts as an additive for pyrrole compounds and displays a strong effect on recording in guinea pigs.
