His-Leu-OH is a peptide hormone that is synthesized in the gastrointestinal tract. It has been shown to decrease blood pressure and inhibit the activity of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) by blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. His-Leu-OH also increases the production of vasoactive intestinal peptide, which stimulates the release of nitric oxide, a potent vasodilator. His-Leu-OH has been shown to inhibit fatty acid synthase and increase lipolysis in adipocytes, leading to antihypertensive effects. His-Leu-OH also inhibits enzymes such as carboxypeptidase A2 and cathepsin G, which are involved in protein degradation. The optimum pH for His-Leu-OH is 5.5 - 6.5, with a pI at 4.5 - 7.5 depending on the amino acid sequence and type of glycos
