2-Hydroxy-N-butyric acid ethyl ester is an extractant that can be used to remove oxygenated, long chain and supercritical extractants from a sample. This compound may be used as a tannin profile indicator or an oxygenated compound analysis. 2-Hydroxy-N-butyric acid ethyl ester is also used for the preparation of samples for gas chromatography. The reaction time for this extraction process is about 30 minutes and the activation energies are 5.5 kcal/mol and 3.2 kcal/mol respectively.
