3-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid hydrazide is a skin cancer treatment drug that belongs to the class of drugs called histone deacetylase inhibitors. This drug blocks the activity of an enzyme that controls the production of proteins in cells, which can lead to cell death. 3-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid hydrazide has been shown to be effective against squamous carcinoma and cutaneous lesions, but not against basal cell carcinoma. It also has toxic effects on human skin fibroblasts and keratinocytes, as well as on mouse embryonic fibroblasts and human lung cells. The cytotoxicity of 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid hydrazide may be due to its ability to cause mitochondrial membrane potential disruption in cancer cells through the activation of integrin receptors.
