6-Hydroxy-2-benzoxazolinone is a reactive, unidentified compound that has been shown to be an oxidant. It is found in the plant species Echinochloa crus-galli and has been shown to have allelochemical properties. 6-Hydroxy-2-benzoxazolinone forms hydroxamic acid, which can react with other compounds or radicals to form new compounds. Chromatographic analysis of this compound has revealed it to have an imidazole ring and a vanillic acid side chain. This active compound is also present in the plant species Alnus glutinosa and Acacia leucophloea.
