Hexafluorocyclotriphosphazene is an organic compound that is used to make glycol ethers. Hexafluorocyclotriphosphazene is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of -14.6°C and a density of 1.87 g/cm3. It can be synthesized by the reaction of phosphorus trichloride, hydrogen fluoride, and an alcohol in a nonpolar solvent at low temperature. The reaction yields are low, giving an isolated yield of about 40%. Hexafluorocyclotriphosphazene reacts with lithium metal in an electrolyte to produce glycol ethers. Hexafluorocyclotriphosphazene has been found to react with chlorine or fluorine atoms in the Friedel-Crafts reaction, which produces cyclic carbonates as products. Hexafluorocyclotriphosphazene can be studied using nmr spectroscopic
