- 6-methyl-3-nitropyridin-2(1H)-one
2-Hydroxy-6-methyl-3-nitropyridine is a water soluble, medicinal compound that has been used for the treatment of tuberculosis. It is irradiated in the presence of nitrates to form 2-hydroxy-3,6-dimethylpyridine (2HMDP), which is then reacted with ammonia or amines to form 2HMDP-amine. 2HMDP is a molecule that has been shown to be effective against tuberculosis and other bacterial infections. The synthesis of 2HMDP involves the reaction of dimethylamine and dipropylamine with orotic acid in ethanolamine and acetic acid.
