Product Information
- 4-Hydroxy-1H-indole-6-carboxylic acid
4-Hydroxy-6-indolecarboxylic acid (4HICA) is an antibiotic that has been shown to have antitrypanosomal activity against the protozoan Trypanosoma brucei. The drug binds to the target enzyme tryptophan synthase, which is involved in the production of tryptophan, a precursor for proteins and DNA synthesis. 4HICA also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to RNA polymerase II and blocking transcription from DNA templates, thereby preventing mRNA translation. It has been shown that 4HICA is active against other trypanosomes, such as Leishmania major and T. cruzi.

4HICA can be analysed using liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (LC-MS) or LC-MS/MS, which provides information on its molecular weight and structure as well as its ionization mass spectrum. A half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) assay
