- 2-Hydroxy-6-Methylpyridine-4-Carboxylic Acid
2-Hydroxy-6-methylpyridine-4-carboxylic acid (2HMP) is a supramolecular compound that can be used in the treatment of tuberculosis. 2HMP inhibits the enzymatic activity of mycobacterial ATP synthase, which is involved in the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate. The inhibition of ATP synthesis leads to cell death. 2HMP has been shown to have anti-tuberculosis properties in single crystal x-ray diffraction studies and also has a high fluorescence quantum yield. The molecule can be synthesized by reacting 2,6-dimethylpyridine with acetic anhydride and hydrochloric acid.
