Description:

1,1',3,3,3',3'-Hexamethyl-4,5,4',5'-dibenzoindodicarbocyanine iodide is a benzothiadiazole that has been used as a fluorescent dye for biological and medical applications. It is hydrophobic and possesses a chromophore that is sensitive to radiation from the blue to the near infrared region. This dye is usually applied in the form of a thin film or layer onto devices such as optical fiber cables. The molecule can be reversibly conjugated with silicone in order to improve its optical properties. It is also used in fluorescence imaging techniques such as confocal microscopy and two-photon microscopy.
