It is a Friedel-Crafts reaction product, which can be produced by reacting an aromatic compound with a halogenated aliphatic compound. The chloride ion is the most common acceptor for this type of reaction. 4-(Cis-4-Hydroxycyclohexyl)phenol is primarily used as a heat resistant plasticizer in polyester resins and as a catalyst for the production of hydroxybenzoic acid.
