Hexafluoroglutaric acid is a synthetic organic chemical that has the chemical formula H(CFO)H. It is a white solid and has a melting point of -25°C. Hexafluoroglutaric acid can be used in radiation sterilization, as an intermediate for fatty esters, and to produce polymers with cationic polymerization. Hexafluoroglutaric acid can also be used in the preparation of perfluorinated polymers by reacting with a carboxylic acid or other hydroxyl-containing compound. In addition, it can be used to make polymers with hydroxide solution and fluorine. The hexafluoroglutaric acid molecule is linear with one carboxylate group on each end.
