Heptadecafluoro-n-octyl iodide is a fluorinated iodide that is used in the imaging of blood vessels and as a contrast agent. It has been shown to be biocompatible with the polymer polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) and does not produce oxidative injury to cells at concentrations up to 10%. Heptadecafluoro-n-octyl iodide has shown antiinflammatory activity, which may be due to its ability to suppress syncytial virus infection and tumor growth. This agent also has a phase transition temperature of -26°C, making it an ideal choice for studies on water vapor.
