7-Hydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavan is a non-steroidal, metabolized substance that belongs to the class of isoflavonoids. It is found in human urine, and has been shown to bind to estrogen receptors. 7-Hydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavan has been used for the treatment of cancer, although it has not been approved by the FDA for this purpose. One study showed that 7-hydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavan inhibited tumor growth in mice without affecting healthy tissue. This substance also inhibits aromatase and may be used as a chemopreventive agent against breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are at high risk for developing this disease.
