(11bS)-1,3,4,6,7,11b-Hexahydro-2H-pyrazino[2,1-a]isoquinoline is a hydrophobic compound that binds to the targetable drug delivery system and can be used for diagnostic purposes. The drug is insoluble in water and cannot be administered orally. Iontophoresis is a technique used to administer the drug by applying an electric current to the skin. A reconstituted form of (11bS)-1,3,4,6,7,11b-hexahydro-2H-pyrazino[2,1-a]isoquinoline has been shown to have therapeutic effects on experimental models of glioma. The active compound can also be implanted or injected into tissues for therapeutic purposes. Drug binding studies using iontophoresis have shown that it has a high affinity for hydrophobic surfaces such as plastic films
