Product Information

Name:
HS-PEG4-CH2CH2COOH
Synonyms:
  • 3,6,9,12-Tetraoxapentadecan-15-oicacid, 1-mercapto- (9CI)
Description:

HS-PEG4-CH2CH2COOH is a hydrophobic nanoparticle that has been used for diagnosis of influenza. It binds to the glycan on the hemagglutinin protein, which is found on the surface of flu viruses. The glycan contains sialic acid and it is this that HS-PEG4-CH2CH2COOH binds to. This binding is thought to inhibit infectivity by preventing the virus from attaching to cells in the human respiratory tract. HS-PEG4-CH2CH2COOH has been shown to bind specifically to influenza A virus strains from humans, but not those from other animals such as swine or birds. This indicates that it could be an effective treatment for humans only and not other species.
