Description:

Hosenkoside K is a saponin that can be found in the roots of Hosenekis (Hosenekia) japonica. It has long been used as a traditional Chinese medicine to treat various types of cancer, including prostate cancer cells. Hosenkoside K is hydrophilic and is excreted slowly from the body, which may be due to its low molecular weight and high lipophilicity. The pharmacokinetics of Hosenkoside K have been investigated using an electrospray ionization quadrupole mass spectrometer with detection by selected reaction monitoring (SRM). This allowed for the identification of metabolites and their corresponding masses, which were then linked to metabolic pathways. Hosenkoside K has been shown to cause cytotoxicity in human lung cells and to inhibit cell growth in culture. It also inhibits energy metabolism in cancer cells, leading to a decrease in ATP levels.
