Product Information
4-Hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylic acid (4HC) is a metabolite of benzoic acid that is produced by the metabolism of 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid. This compound is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which can be found in acidic foods such as fruits and vegetables. The main route of elimination for 4HC is through urine. Urine samples from rats with liver disease have been shown to have elevated levels of this compound. Friedel-Crafts reactions are also involved in the production of 4HC. Carbon sources, such as glucose or sucrose, are converted into 4HC by oxidation. This compound has been shown to inhibit immunosuppressive activities and may be useful for developing new drugs for allergy treatment and asthma prevention.
