The compound is used in liquid crystal compositions, which are non-polymeric, and has been shown to be effective against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Hexadecyltrimethylammonium Perchlorate has also been found to have antifungal activity against Candida albicans.
