3-(2H-1,2,3-Triazol-4-yl)pyridine is a melatonin analog that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of mitochondrial disorders. This drug binds to the mitochondria and prevents the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibits autophagy. 3-(2H-1,2,3-Triazol-4-yl)pyridine also shows a protective effect against oxidative stress by reducing mitochondrial superoxide levels. The effects of this drug are dose dependent and are most likely due to its ability to inhibit acetylation or sirtuin activity. 3-(2H-1,2,3-Triazol-4-yl)pyridine also increases cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may have a role in its antiapoptotic properties.
