Product Information
- 4-Formyl-2,5-dimethylphenol
- 2,5-Dimethyl-4-Hydroxybenzaldehyde
4-Hydroxy-2,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde is a potent anticancer agent that belongs to the group of aryl halides. It is synthesized by the reaction of 4-hydroxy-2,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde with potassium tert-butoxide in liquid ammonia at -78°C. The compound is characterized by an intramolecular cyclization that leads to an aryl halide. The synthesis of this compound was achieved by the use of a sterically hindered substrate and a transition metal catalyst. 4-Hydoxy-2,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde has been shown to have multifunctional properties, including potent anticancer activity against human prostate cancer cells and erythromycin A resistance in Escherichia coli.
