Product Information
- 3,3,4,4,5,5,5-Heptafluoro-1-pentene
Heptafluoropentene is a reactive gas that is used in the production of trifluoroacetic acid. It can be produced by equilibrating 1-chloroethylene with hydrogen fluoride and chlorine at high temperature. This reaction is followed by irradiation with ultraviolet light to yield the desired product, which is unreactive with chloride ions. Heptafluoropentene has been used in devices such as silicon semiconductors and optical fibres for its inert properties. Heptafluoropentene also reacts with styrene to produce trans-stilbene, which can be used as an intermediate for the production of polymers.
