Product Information

Name:
Hexadecafluorodecanedinitrile
Description:

Hexadecafluorodecanedinitrile is a nitro compound that has been used as an odorant for military explosives. It is also used as a precursor to derivatives such as hexadecanedinitrile and hexadecanesulfoxide. Hexadecafluorodecanedinitrile can be synthesized by reaction of trichloroacetonitrile with benzonitrile in the presence of catalysts. Reaction temperatures are typically between about -10°C and about 40°C, although the temperature may be increased to between about 50°C and about 80°C. Hexadecafluorodecanedinitrile is also used to produce triazine-based polymers, which are cross-linked via benzene rings with other molecules or organometallic compounds such as copper acetate.
