Hydrogen trifluorohydroxyborate is a chemical compound that contains hydrogen, boron, and fluorine. It is a colourless liquid, although it can be prepared as an off-white solid. Hydrogen trifluorohydroxyborate is used as a catalyst in the chemical reactions of boron trifluoride with water or alcohols. The reaction with water produces hydrogen gas and boric acid, while the reaction with alcohols produces hydrogen gas and ethanol. Hydrogen trifluorohydroxyborate is toxic to humans because it reacts with body tissue to form hydrofluoric acid.
