Description:
1,1,1,2,2,3,3-Heptachloro-3-fluoro-propane is a reuptake inhibitor of serotonin and has been used in devices for the treatment of depression. It has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of major depressive disorder. 1,1,1,2,2,3,3-Heptachloro-3-fluoro-propane is also used as an experimental drug to increase serotonin levels in rats with 5HT receptor subtypes. This drug also inhibits the transfer of serotonin from one neuron to another by blocking the transporter protein that removes serotonin from the synapse. The drug can also cause reactive oxygen species (ROS) and thermal energy release when it reacts with hydroxyl radicals or hydrogen peroxide.
