Product Information

Name:
Indole-7-carboxaldehyde
Synonyms:
  • 7-Formylindole
  • 1H-Indole-7-carboxaldehyde
  • 1H-indole-7-carbaldehyde
  • 7-Indolecarboxaldehyde
Description:

Indole-7-carboxaldehyde is a chemical compound that has significant cytotoxicity. It is also an anti-cancer drug that can be used to treat cancer cells. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division and by inducing apoptosis in cancerous cells. Indole-7-carboxaldehyde has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of MCF-7 breast cancer cells and human leukemia cells. The chemical has been shown to have inhibitory properties against the enzyme called amp-activated protein kinase (AMPK). This inhibition prevents activation of AMPK, which can lead to increased phosphorylation of acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACC) and therefore decreased malonyl CoA levels. This decrease in malonyl CoA will cause a decrease in fatty acid synthesis, leading to cell death.
