DL-Isoleucine is a non-essential amino acid that is used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. It is an alpha-amino acid that participates in the synthesis of proteins and lipids. DL-Isoleucine has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects in rats with bowel disease. This amino acid has also been shown to lower blood glucose levels in both normal and diabetic rats by stimulating insulin release by pancreatic beta cells. DL-Isoleucine is a basic protein, which means it has a pH value higher than 7 at room temperature. The optimum concentration for DL-isoleucine's hypoglycemic effect was determined to be 1 mM, as measured by an analytical method. DL-Isoleucine induces body formation by increasing the production of 4-hydroxycinnamic acid, which is converted into isoleucine through the action of the enzyme 4HCA reductase.
