Product Information
4-Isobutoxybenzoic acid (4-IBBA) is a natural product that belongs to the group of phenylcarboxylic acids. The compound can be synthesized from 4-propoxybenzoic acid, which is obtained by oxidation of the corresponding alcohol. The synthetic route involves a fragmentation reaction and an isomerisation reaction. 4-IBBA has shown antimycobacterial activity in various screening tests and was found to act as a quinone, which inhibits bacterial growth by blocking electron transport. It also has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of DNA and protein in bacteria.
