Product Information
Carbaryl is a carbamate insecticide that is used to control a variety of pests in agricultural, commercial, and residential settings. It belongs to the phenoxyacetic acid class of pesticides. Carbaryl prevents the synthesis of cholinesterase by irreversibly inhibiting acetylcholinesterase. This inhibition leads to accumulation of acetylcholine at synapses and overstimulation of muscarinic and nicotinic receptors. Carbaryl has been shown to have high toxicity to a number of organisms, including mammals, birds, bees, and fish. The use of carbaryl as an insecticide was phased out in the United States in 2001 due to insufficient evidence for its safety.
