Product Information
- Cumene-4-sulphonyl chloride
- 4-(1-Methylethyl)Benzenesulfonyl Chloride
4-Isopropylbenzenesulfonyl chloride (4-IBPC) is a sulfonating agent that is used in the production of polystyrene. The crystalline form of 4-IBPC is an inorganic compound with a molecular weight of 176.2 and a melting point of 145°C. 4-IBPC has an oriented crystal x-ray diffraction pattern, giving it a high degree of symmetry. 4-IBPC can be synthesized by the ring opening of epichlorohydrin and benzene, followed by sulfonation with sulfur trioxide or chlorine gas. It can also be prepared by treating styrene with sodium chlorate in the presence of isopropyl alcohol, which produces both sulfonic acid and sulfoxide groups. 4-IBPC has been used as a reagent for spectroscopic analysis, such as infrared, ultraviolet, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This chemical reacts readily with organic compounds to form salts
