3-(1H-Imidazol-1-yl)propanenitrile is a synthetic chemical compound that is used to make acrylonitrile. The reaction proceeds via a stepwise mechanism. The imidazole ring is formed by condensation of two molecules of ammonia and one molecule of propylene oxide. This chemical compound adsorbs onto surfaces and enhances Raman spectroscopy, which is useful for identifying different functional groups on the surface.
