Description

1-Isocyanato-4-(methylthio)benzene is an organosulfur compound with the formula CS(O)N=C=S. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in organic solvents. 1-Isocyanato-4-(methylthio)benzene has been used as a catalyst for the sulfoxidation of alcohols and thiols to give the corresponding sulfones and sulfides, respectively. The compound can be prepared by reacting phosgene with methylthiobenzene in the presence of acid or base. The reaction proceeds via a radical mechanism, which provides high yields of product and good chemoselectivity for the sulfoxidation step.
