4-Aminobenzoic acid is a monoclonal antibody that binds to an epitope on the carboxyterminal domain of the acetylcholine receptor. The antibody is used for immunocytochemical staining of acetylcholine receptors in histological preparations and is also useful for identifying neurons in neuropathology. 4-Aminobenzoic acid has been shown to inhibit the hydrolysis of esters catalyzed by enzymes such as cholinesterase, lipases, and esterases.
