2-Indol-1-yl-ethylamine is an activating synthetic intermediate that can be used for the synthesis of benzotriazole, chiral catalysts, and medicinal compounds. It is an iminium compound with two alkyl substituents at the N atom. The reactivity of 2-indol-1-yl-ethylamine is increased by the presence of silicon, aldehydes, or phenylsulfonyl groups. This compound has been shown to have a high yield and can be prepared in high purity using Raney nickel or palladium on carbon as catalysts.
