Description

Indane-5-carboxylic acid is a polyester glycol. It is a colorless liquid with a molecular weight of 174.2 and boiling point of 150°C. The viscosity of indane-5-carboxylic acid is 2.1 cP at 20°C. Indane-5-carboxylic acid has the following sequence: CH3(CH2)2COOC(CH3)3 and has an asymmetric carbon atom in the molecule. This stereochemical indicates that the molecule is not chiral because it lacks an asymmetric carbon atom and a plane of symmetry. The molecular structure consists of two cyclic ether rings, each containing four carbons and three hydroxyl groups, with the carboxylic acid group on one end of the molecule.
