3H-Imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine is a nitroaromatic compound that belongs to the class of antimicrobial agents. The chemical is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. 3H-Imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine has been shown to inhibit COX2 and other kinases and has been found to be effective against autoimmune diseases, metabolic disorders, and carboxyhemoglobin. It also inhibits the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting the enzyme COX-2. 3H-Imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine prevents the oxidation of arachidonic acid by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX). This inhibition leads to a decrease in prostaglandin synthesis and inflammation.
